In a striking demonstration of discontent, students from Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College showed their discontentment yesterday. The Left-affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA) on Tuesday protested against an RSS event which was supposed to be conducted at 6 pm on the following day.

THe revolt was against the institution following an event that ignited widespread fury among the student body. The event was RSS’s ( Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) annual celebration of ‘Varsh Pratipada’ or Hindu New Year.

The protest, marked by vocal disapproval and boldly display of disagreement, laid bare the mounting discord between students and the college administration.

Responding swiftly to the escalating discontent, students mobilized, orchestrating a peaceful protest to air their grievances and demand accountability from the college administration.

In an interview with the press, AISA DU secretary Anjali gave a statement

“RSS does not represent any students’ group. How can the college administration give permission to a political outfit to organise an event at the college ground? We will not let our colleges turn into breeding grounds of communalism,” .

While the college administration has yet to formally address the protest, their silence on the matter speaks loud and clear.

The event went on as per the schedule. The RSS event started at 6 pm on the following day and went smoothly as the authorities shuned down the protest.

The protest mirrors a broader trend of burgeoning student activism across college campuses, with students increasingly vocal in their advocacy for social justice and their insistence on holding institutions accountable for their actions. This also shows the take of youth on the political scenario of the country. They are more focused on their unity and peace rather than including unnecessary politics where it is not required.

Now it will be noteworthy to see how the authorities and college administration will look in to this matter.
