No Entrance Based Admissions For The Session 2019-20

As the applicants of the 2019-20 session are keeping a keen eye on the changes and updates in the admission criteria, another change was set to arrive their way!

HRD Minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar, on Friday, announced that the ‘Entrance-based’ criteria would be followed rather than the usual ‘cut-off based’ one from this 2019-20 session onwards.

This move was to be made for all the undergraduate courses of Delhi University.

The DU admission committee was preparing on the minute details of the change to be followed up but the members could not reach to a consensus.

Owing to these issues,the Minister had to change his mind and the decision came out as Javadekar told reporters that-“For 2019-20, there will be no entrance test in DU and admissions will be conducted on the basis of Class-XIIth marks.”

TRIPARTITE MoU and The CENTRAL LOANS PACT!

The cut-throat competition that the private as well as the public universities are giving each other has lead each of them in a dire need of money. And in order to acquire that from their management, they are constantly playing a tug-of-war!!

The University fears a depletion in its funds from the next semester and hence did decide on writing a letter to the members of its top decision making body, the Executive Council(EC), to observe and send it’s report on the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) sent by the MHRD.

The above-mentioned MoU includes orders for the University to mention it’s methods of internal funds generation such as feel hike and the loan amount hey wish to seek for development from the Higher Education Funds Agency(HEFA).

Also, the MoU is to be signed between DU, UGC and the MHRD.

The email sent to EC members on December 14,says, -“Kindly refer to the discussions held in the meeting of the Executive Council on 27.09’2018/ 28-29.09’2018/ 3-4.10’2018 on the agenda pertaining to signing of Tripartite MoU.During the discussion emerged at the time of meeting, it was seen that the members needed more time to study and hence give their opinion/observations. Accordingly, you are requested to submit their opinions/observations, if any, on the draft of the MoU at the earliest.”

In September,the signing up of the MoU was refused by the council members,opinionating the idea that it would ‘privatise’ the university. The UGC later mentioned that it would ‘withhold’ funds if the MoU isn’t signed by the university.

The MoU has been sent to all the universities of the country,including Delhi University,also,a reminder was sent by MHRD to DU for the MoU in June. Later on, in August it was mentioned by HT that the university didn’t receive a penny from the ministry owing to the delayed signing of the MoU for the current session.

The EC members are totally against the notion of signing the MoU which says the funds to educational institute would be replaced with loans through HEFA- a body set up by the centre which provides 10 year loans to public institutes for infrastructure and development.

In such a condition, the students as well as the entire management becomes miserable finding noway to have their rights preserved.

ABVP Alleges NSUI and DU Administration of Connivance!

Recently, there have been big revelations about the kind of ill and crooked methods that the different parties practice in order to fetch that one high seat of the President!

The candidate of ABVP who was made to sit on the seat of Presidency by the university students, recently lost his seat to the constant ‘collar-hawking’ and tug of war between the political parties.

And much to the surprise of everyone,now this storm has taken many old politicians within its conception. ABVP minister Bharat Khatam has alleged NSUI’s Former President Rocky Tuseed of getting admissions in Buddhist department through ill means and connivance of NSUI and DU administration.At the same time,he gave his wrong pledge-letter to get into DUSU elections.Also,Khatam claims that Rocky took undue advantage and thereby withdrew a sum of Rs. 10 lakh From the student’s fund of DUSU.

Not just this,NSUI’s All India minster used fraudgery while seeking admissions to the Buddhist department of PhD, DU.

Bharat said that ABVP had raised these questions in front of DU administration but owing to the fraudgery and adultaration being practiced,no step has been taken against the same since months.

On 19th of November,owing to the circumstances prevailing, ABVP students held a protest against the DU Vice Chancellor in front of the Arts faculty and demanded justice.

The university is going through a massive political chaos at the moment… and for all the students it is important to know the truth from both sides…!!

Rise of Durga : Me Too!

Durga Pooja, a famous festival celebrated widely across India. Each one of us know the significance held by the same which is the victory of good over evil.

But the question is are we really killing the Ravana every year or have those ears went deaf in the cackling sound of Pseudo Ravana’s burning? Or has the very idea of empowering women paralysed her? Or are we letting our conscious negotiate with our conscience to create more such Ravanas?
Yes, we are creating more of them, might that be on the workplace that women face harassment for stepping out of their domestic genre; or might that be the house where they spend their entire life under that veil!

Digging deeper into the trenches of oblivion, we find a zillion cases of spoken and unheard stories of women’s sufferings. Ranging from the one of Nirbhaya to more such girls who never found ears to be heard! There have been as many as 21,000 rape and molestation cases registered in 2016-17.
It’s a complete nexus of double faceted people. On the very idea of empowering her, she is sent to work outside and there too she faces the same! And to the utmost amazement, the reasons for all these lie at women part. Its not the men who behave like predators, its the other gender who are ‘sluts’. Its not about men who hide their insecurities under dominance, its the women who doesn’t understand her area of conduct!

There isn’t a way out so she keeps walking till her legs give up balancing the societal pride on her veil until one day when they fall on those four shoulders!But those blind eyes are resistant enough to envision what would subjugate their practice of subjugation…! Then,one day Draupadi becomes Durga and decides to cry a #MeToo for all who someday tried to reduce her to the former.
Yet the point that needs to be interrogated is why isn’t there an in between for her? Why her identity ranges from either chaste or slut? And why does she beg for her rights?Are they patent!
Durga,once killed the demon ‘Raktabeej’ and every drop of blood formed yet another demon! So she created Kaali and poured every bit of blood in her mouth. Such courage!Every year we celebrate it, by the end of it,we burn the idols of Ravana but, this time there has been a twist. We used to burn one on one day but this time we are burning a zillion in 9 days! The wake of the movement, Me too has marked the very liveliness of the same.
Evoking the Kaali within each one of us,we need to stand together and eat up every demon who tries to eat our identity.
Let’s stand up and walk through this fire till this me too reaches its end and not just a mere hault!

Delhi University Snatches Away Food Subsidy From PwD Students For The Time Being

Recently, the reports have come out of students saying that DU has withdrawn 50% of food subsidy on mess from PWD i.e physically or mentally disabled and handicapped students.

The students have made claims saying that they have were being provided with subsidy since 2012 when a proposal was given to DU by disabled students demanding a separate hostel for them.
But as an outcome of the proposal they were given 5% reservation in the hostel seats as well as they were provided with food in mess at subsidised rates.

But since last two-three months i.e. july this subsidy has been withdrawn by hostels like Mansarovar, Ambedkar and CIE and the PWD students are also paying the same rates as the other students.

“From this session onwards,the hostels like Mansarovar, CIE and Ambedkar have already stopped giving subsidy and soon the other hostels will stop giving at subsidised rates too as soon as their funds get exhausted”-, a student resident from University Hostel for Women was quoted saying.

Sources claim that DU has not been at the receptive end of any funds for subsidy from UGC since it had not signed the Tripartite MoU sent by the HRD ministry.

The agreement, as mentioned in previous articles was sent by HRD to the varsity last year and it has to sign the same to continue receiving funds.

Another official from the varsity was quoted saying-“The university had been giving the subsidy from 2012 on its own. It was not receiving any funding for it. It is not that we have withdrawn it. We will continue to give it. There have been some procedural changes and we are working them out so that this can be continued.”

The point is that just because of one MoU, the story has stretched on to become a problem that has stooped down to the student’s level.We students hope and wish that the university as well as HRD would soon understand how far reaching the effects of their single speck of actions and ignorance have on students.
