Almost 5000 adhoc teachers are on a hunger strike from Friday demanding permanency to have same benefits as given to the permanent ones.

“We are sitting outside the Faculty of Arts and it is very cold. It is very difficult, but we are supporting each other. We demand the absorption of adhoc and temporary teachers in DU. These teachers have been working for years without any leave and increment.” said Aditya Narayan Misra, president of Academics for Action and Development.

There are 4600 adhoc teachers in the university. They all have required qualifications prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The issue is also raised by the congress minister Rahul Gandhi. In Rajasthan they have appointed a committee. In Madhya Pradesh they are in process. We are demanding the same for Delhi University, added Misra.

Durga Puja is just around the corner and is one of the most vibrant, pious and celebrated festival among Bengalis. An occasion of unrestrained joy as the mother goddess visits her ‘natal home’.

Hypocrisy of Durga Puja

The festival comes with some overpowering energy and is a much sight to watch. The priest performing the Artti of the goddess and dancing in a trance to the beats of Dhaak. Durga Puja is considered as the most pious and we definitely have the religious history to stand for it.

But Is the Durga Puja all good and glorious; isn’t there any hypocrisy attached? Let’s for once put the ritual to test!

Hypocrisy of Durga Puja The idol of the goddess Durga is said to be incomplete until the soil from a brothel is added to it . Thanks to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas that most of us are aware of this ritual but ,what matters is the origin of the practice which is still unknown!

The soil from the brothel or the “Punnya Matti” symbolizes purity. Yes! Ironic indeed, it could sound hypocritic to many of us. The entire year we mark or condemn the prostitutes as “ impure” whereas once every year we ask our “ holy priests” to go and beg to the prostitutes for the soil of her backyard.

The major belief behind this ritual is that when men visit a prostitute they leave their virtue and purity outside her house and thus the soil is considered as ‘pure’. There is also a popular notion that Goddess Durga would be displeased if those who worship her do not take the blessings of the prostitutes.

But ,on the other hand when on these days we give so much importance and value to the sex workers we also very comfortably forget that prostitutes too are a part of the same world and are a product of the male dominant society; treated as a sex object who can be commoditized.

These rituals that are being blindly followed act as a mirror to our hypocrisy and teaches us to keep the balance that the nature is based on. Thus in todays time there is an immense need for a rational thinking. What do you think?

It’s now been weeks after Delhi University’s Student Union’s president Ankiv Baisoya’s degree erupted. But it seems like Delhi University’s administration is niggling it on.

The probe has not reached any firm conclusion from the university’s end. Though the controller of Thiruvalluar University clarified on the fake degree of Baisoya. Even after rechecking was done the registrar of Thiruvalluar University has again clarified that” Ankiv Baisoya has not enrolled either in the university or in any of its constituent and affiliated colleges.”

“Despite of this the DU administration is dragging their feet on by removing the admission officer and delaying the process by different means to slow down the course of action, hence favoring ABVP” claims congress backed student union NSUI.

NSUI has also further gone out to demand:

  • Declaration of Sunny Chillar as the DUSU president.
  • Ankiv baisoya should be behind the bars for deceiving the students of DU and DU administration by the means of fraud.

NSUI has also alleged that DU administration is avoiding the matter because according to the Lyngdoh guidelines, if the president is removed from the post within two months, university will have to conduct re-elections for the DUSU office.

Moreover, after two months the guidelines will reject the need of re-elections and will direct the vice president who is also from ABVP to take the charge as the president.

Worried about your marriage? Or looking for a guide to an adarsh bahu? Then this university in Bhopal is the perfect place for you!

The Barkatullah University in Bhopal has decided to launch a three month short term course to prepare an “adarsh bahu” which will be launched from the new semester and believes it to be a step ahead in women’s empowerment.

VC prof DC Gupta explained that the objective of the course is to make the girls aware so they can adjust to the new environment after marriage.

He further said, “We see that these days there are disputes in families over small issues and families are breaking apart. People are fighting within a year of marriage and the issue even goes to the extent of a divorce. Now what will happen to the girl and the family? So should we not do something that saves the family from breaking apart?

The students from the university said,’ The University should concentrate more on the quality of education than doing social work. This course is more of publicity than a genuine effort to contribute to the society.’

Being a part of the age where both the bride and the groom consider each other equally responsible of their marriage do we need certificates and courses of an adarsh bahu or a sanskari son in law?
