Time management: The need of the day!

Time management is a very crucial component to lead a successful life. As an individual, we have a variety of roles to play in life. These roles do require a lot of time to be nurtured. Therefore, sometimes it seems to be very difficult to manage the time effectively. Rigid schedules aren’t always practical, so it’s essential to find flexible strategies that work for us. These strategies tailor our time. Here are some valid time management tips that you must follow: –

Set clear goals

Before contributing your time to anyone you must know your goals effectively. Your goals will help you to set the priority for your life. Your priorities will then define how much time you must contribute to each task. Thus, clear goals here play a detrimental role in determining your success.

Prioritize your tasks

When you give priority to those tasks that are more important to you, it will help you to have efficient time management. In case you feel that you are contributing more time to those tasks that are comparatively less crucial to you, then you must change your direction. Thus, giving priority to more important tasks will help you have the optimal output of your time.

Use a to-do-list

Rather than calculating in your mind, you must use a pen and paper. Using pen and paper will help you get more clarity on the tasks that you are required to do. This will ensure that you must engage yourself in your priorities. Generally, one makes to-do lists in the morning, however, you can add them to the requirements of the time.

Break tasks down

Please divide the heavy tasks into small parts to get them done effectively. Once we start completing it part by part, it will not only help us to effectively manage our time but also make us comfortable with our tasks. This is especially applicable to mega projects that companies work for. They always tend to distribute the tasks that are directed toward one goal. Thus, please break down your tasks into simpler ones.

Limit distractions

One of the crucial barriers to time management is that distracts us from the task. We must try to complete the tasks in a distraction-free environment. Delegation of distraction is one of the effective strategies that we must apply to make a working environment. Those components that create distractions are known as distractors. For instance: – The mobile notification is a distractor. Thus, we must put all such distractors away from the working environment. Those distractors which are confounding in nature must be balanced accordingly.

Use time management tools:-

There are a lot of online applications and AI tools that will help you to set your reminders, notifications, screen time control and even a good to-do list creator. In this digital world, we can use these tools to aid in the process of our time management. These tools are also viable helpers in case of modifications in the priority of tasks if you allow them to have the insight to provide analysis on your tasks. You can even ask the AI regarding the required time for the completion of the tasks by signalling them regarding your speed.

Learn to say no

Saying not respectfully to non-essential tasks is an art in itself. We must learn to say no to people whenever required. It will help us in the efficient execution of the tasks as per our plan. By setting boundaries and making deliberate choices about where to invest your time, you ensure that your efforts are concentrated on activities that contribute most meaningfully to your objectives. This not only enhances efficiency but also promotes a healthier balance between work, personal life, and other responsibilities.

Set realistic deadlines

We must set realistic deadlines rather than having any superhuman goals. Our goals must be achieved in a way that it is humanly possible for us to complete them. A key benefit of setting realistic deadlines is the reduction of unnecessary stress. When deadlines are too tight or unrealistic, it can lead to rushed work, decreased quality, and heightened anxiety. On the other hand, achievable deadlines allow for a more balanced workflow, giving you sufficient time to complete tasks thoroughly and efficiently.

Thus, it can be concluded that the time in our hands is one of the most crucial things that we must employ efficiently. Efficient time management not only enhances our ability to meet deadlines and deliver quality work but also allows us to allocate time for personal growth, relaxation, and meaningful relationships, ensuring a fulfilling and well-rounded life.

Microplastics: A health hazard!

Plastics are considered durable materials for packaging and other viable uses. However, environmentalists time and again have warned about the repercussions of the use of plastic. Its non-durability is a boon, but it is also a bane in the limelight. A new form of threat is arising with the increasing production of plastics in the environment. It is directly entering into our body. This is known as microplastics.

What is microplastic? How is it entering our body? What will be its long-term consequences? How to avoid its consumption? This blog here shall deal with the fundamentals of microplastics and its relationship with you!

What are microplastics?

The plastic particles existing in an environment that has a size of less than 5 mm are termed microplastic. They are sized even less than the particle of a grain. Such smaller particles of plastics have a variety of origins. Using plastic material in a microwave oven, completely eating every body part of seafood, Using plastic cups and leakers for tea and coffee. Chemically discharged plastic materials from factories. They are the respective reason for the mass generation of microplastics that enter the environment.

In a book named, “An Author of a Life”, it is stated that irrespective of the brand of water bottle, it contains 325 microplastic in it. Depending on the source of microplastic generation, they can be classified into two broad categories: –

  1. Primary microplastic

These are the plastics that are directly released into nature from the source. For example: – Microbeads in facial scrubs.

  1. Secondary microplastic

The breakdown of larger plastic materials into smaller particles through a variety of measures such as heat or UV rays

It is a surprising fact that toothbrushes that are made of Nylon do release microplastics. Except for these sources, agricultural practices, marine food, microplastic in the air, detergents, and lubricants are all sources through which it enters our bodies.

 Effects of microplastics on health

Microplastics have wide-ranging ramifications on health. Although the matter is not very clear among the community of scientists. However, the non-degradable nature of this waste can inform us about the repercussions this can have on our bodies. Any particle that enters our body through our mouth tends to go to blood. Thus, it finally reaches the heart to get pumped. In this process of biomagnification when these particles reach the body, it can alter the basic decomposition mechanism of our body.

Researchers have calculated the amount of microplastics entering our body and have found that we are eating a credit card in a month! Once entered into our body, it will never degrade through biological processes. Consumption of plastics can thus have cancerous effects because of their non-degradable nature. Also, it can affect our digestive, reproductive and respiratory systems.

How to avoid microplastics in food

  1. Avoid packed drinking water

Water that is being packed in plastic bottles tends to release microplastics in water. This is especially true in the present scenario where the average temperature ranges around 50 degrees Celsius. Thus, we must pursue some non-plastic containers for containing water. Many startups nowadays are making wooden bottles to reduce the use of plastic containers.

2. Remove the gut of seafood

As a result of human alteration, our ocean bodies are contaminated with microplastics. Thus, it is normal for marine animals to consume those plastics that indirectly reach our bodies. Researchers have proved the contamination of microplastic particles in the guts of fishes. Thus, we must not eat that part while consuming marine food

3. Organic vegetables.

Organically farmed vegetables are less susceptible to exposure to microplastics. Thus, making it a good choice to reduce the risks of microplastics

4. To restrict the Tajon horse effect: –

It is a scientific term referring to all mediums that are responsible for the transportation of microplastic from one place to another. If technologically anyhow this can be controlled, the process of biomagnification can be reduced.

5. Don’t use leakers for tea the

The usage of plastic cups and leakers for tea is responsible for the ample amount of microplastic consumption. Thus, we must use natural cups to have tea without using the leaker bags.

6. Never use plastic containers in the microwave

Microwaves produce a lot of heat and thus can be responsible for chemical reactions with plastics. Thus, it will definitely release the plastic particles in your food.

7. Limit the processed food.

We must limit the highly processed food. As such food items have a high vulnerability to plastic exposure thus inculcating microplastic within us.

Thus, in a nutshell, we can conclude that this process of biomagnification has catastrophic ramifications for our health. Thus, there is an urgent need that we must move towards environmentally friendly ways to deal with our issues. The major cause itself is increasing production of plastic which must be limited. Otherwise, the time it will rise as an epidemic is not so far!

CSAS Portal now invite freshers to DU

Delhi University has now opened the CSAS portal for the admission of freshers to the university. Thus, those CUET aspirants who are willing to pursue any course at Delhi University can now enrol themselves in the portal.

This time the university is providing 71000 seats for admission in 79 Undergraduate programs for 69 colleges.

“Admission to the DU UG courses for the academic session 2024-25 will be conducted through DU CSAS portal 2024,” DU Dean Admission Haneet Gandhi said in a press conference. This blog shall deal with the basics of the CSAS portal.

General instructions for students

  1. For the academic session 2024-25, all admissions will be valid only through online mode with the CSAS portal. No other offline means for admission will be considered valid
  2. The candidate who wishes to get admission to DU must be the CUET candidate this year conducted by NTA
  3. Candidature will not be considered as successful if the candidate doesn’t now fulfil the eligibility criteria for specific programs
  4. Candidates must pay the registration fees for each of these course
  5. After filing in the basic details thereby preferences the candidature will be accepted.
  6. DU officials said once a seat is allocated in a particular round, the candidate must “accept” the allocated seat before the last date for the given allocation round, with inactivity or inaction to be taken as non-acceptance to the allocated seat.

The selection will be solely based on the final score of CUET and in case of tie, the 12th marks will be considered as criteria.

University has also opened the portal for distance learning and NCWEB based on CUET and 12th scores

Reservation of seat for single girl child

In a press conference announcing the admission process, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said that under its new supernumerary quota, one seat will be reserved for single girl children in each class across all departments in the university’s colleges.

Last year, the university introduced a supernumerary category to provide admissions to orphan students, a male and a female, in each program of each college.

“Admissions will open for 71,000 seats across 79 programs in undergraduate courses. A total of 183 subject combinations are available in BA programs across 69 colleges.

Admission to these programs is based on the merit score obtained on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET),” Mr Gupta said. The CUET UG exams are underway and the results are expected to be released on June 30.

Mapping

“Candidates will have to map the subjects studied by them in Class XII to the subjects in which they have written their CUET exams.

DU will only consider those CUET papers which are the same or similar to the subject studied by the candidate in school.” Mr Gupta said.

They will see their cumulative marks for the program there in the portal itself and thereby in phase 2 of CSAS, they have to map their college and course preferences in Delhi University.

Official website – https://ugadmission.uod.ac.in/

Thus, in a nutshell, it is apparent that fulfilling the set criteria of du CSAS is mandatory to get admission there. Please follow the guidelines provided in the official bulletin on the official website and check your eligibility.

“If you refuse to participate in politics, accept to be governed by your inferior” ~ Pleto

This year, the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) is celebrating Navratri with a unique twist. Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) has decided to empower and encourage women by “One-Day President” initiative. This initiative was inspired by the famous Bollywood movie “Nayak,” where the protagonist becomes Chief Minister for one day. DUSU has decided to appoint a female student as president for each of the nine days of Navratri. This initiative mainly focuses on increasing women participation in student politics.

DuGirls

According to current DUSU president, Tushar Dedha, the Union has failed to have a female secretary for the last 15 years. He points out that the last female president was Nupur Sharma in 2008-09. Sharma was in headlines during the controversial statement regarding prophet Mohammed in June 2022. Dedha says, this one-day president program will encourage women to speak up for their rights and enter into politics.

The ‘Nayika’s of Navratri

What are the thoughts of the chosen presidents? What do they want to introduce in their 24 hours tenure? Here are few glimpses-

Sakshi Patel, a final-year student, focuses on affordable educational resources. She proposes setting up book banks in every college to provide textbooks and study materials to students facing financial difficulties. According to her, DUSU has lacked female presidents over the years. To change the situation it is very important for female students to come in front and take part in student politics activity.

DUgirls2

Anshita Chauhan, a first-year student, has also been nominated for one day as president. The 20 year old kid is brimming with excitement. When she was asked about her policies, she preferred to emphasize student safety and well-being.  She particularly pointed out that those who are living in rented accommodations (PGs) face various kinds of difficulties. She proposes a DUSU-led program to inspect these problems and create more affordable stays for students.

Preeti Singh Jain, a second-year student, highlighted the importance of academic exchange programs. According to her, DU should implement student exchange programs on a regular basis. This would allow students to explore different academic environments and broaden their educational experiences. She proposed that at least every student should get a chance to spend at least one semester in another college.

Shyama Arunbhai Trivedi, a final-year student, brings attention to the needs of differently-abled students. She feels that existing support programs are often inactive. Though she is a symbolic president, she has chalked out her plan. Having one day in hand, she will work on for the betterment of the specially abled students.

Symbolic but Significant

By all the proposals and narratives we have heard, it leads to one important conclusion. This Navratri in Delhi University is completely different from other years. Finally the female students are coming out of their shell and sharing their thoughts. As a whole it will enhance the community and hopefully generate a holistic environment for education. Their thoughts are quite impressive and hopefully it will be implemented by the union even after their term ends.

DUgirls3

With the last female president in 2008-09, DUSU has lacked strong female representation. This initiative allows female leaders to come up and claim their rightful space in student politics. It sends a powerful message: women belong at the decision-making table.

The limited term of the one-day presidency might seem like a symbolic gesture. However, it can be a small beginning of long-term change. Such young girls will have an experience of responsibilities and hopefully understand the potential in them.
