Delhi University has junked a proposal to introduce entrance examination for admission to Under Graduate courses replacing the cut-off list system.

The varsity’s Standing Committee on Admissions was earlier mulling admitting students through an entrance test rather than the existing criteria of cut-offs based on Class 12th results.

To avoid last minute rush, Delhi University has started the admission process earlier this year. The online registration form for the undergraduate courses are available from May 15, 2018.

Here we have listed important points which you must know about Delhi University admission:

1. Delhi University application process is conducted completely online now and students don’t need to queue up at the university or colleges to procure application forms.

2. Application fee for DU admission form can also be submitted online, hence no hassling for demand draft at an SBI branch.

3. The cutoff will be released separately for Arts and Humanities courses and Science courses.

4. Best four – most of the colleges consider marks scored in best four subjects, that is any four subjects in which a student has scored maximum marks.

5. The University may conduct entrance exam for admission to B.Tech., B.El.Ed., BMS, BA (Honors) Economics, BBA (FIA) etc.

6. 5% seat in each course is reserved for ECA and Sports quota.

7. Each college conducts its own ECA and Sports trial. Stay updated about every college’s schedule of the trial.

8. Women students can also opt for admission to Non Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), DU which conducts weekend classes for women students at various study centers.

9. NCWEB, DU offers two UG courses – BA (Programme) and B.Com.

10. Students with low scores in 10+2 can also opt for admission to School of Open Learning (SOL), DU.

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is all set to introduce a two-year Masters of Business Administration (MBA) postgraduate degree programme from this year.

The course is currently pending approval by the university, is expected to have a profile similar to MBA programmes offered by IIMs. The college is expected to offer 65 seats.

SRCC will not require approval from University Grants Commission for this course as it will be funded by the college itself.

Divided into four semesters, the programme will offer 18 additional courses. “The new course will replace the existing two-year postgraduate Global Business Operations (GBO) diploma programme,” said RP Rustagi, officiating principal of SRCC. “We are waiting for the MBA programme to be approved by the university,” source Times of India.
The admission procedure for GBO diploma differs from the rest of the courses at the college as its registration process for the 2017-19 batch was conducted in January this year.
Although the MBA degree programme is said to be an upgrade to the existing GBO diploma, its curriculum will be entirely different. It is expected to offer the same subjects and electives as IIMs.

Currently, out of the five courses at SRCC, GBO is the only diploma programme. “We are looking forward to replacing the existing twoyear diploma course with a degree programme. Students will then have the advantage of getting a postgraduate degree rather than a diploma,” said a member of the college administration.

The University of Delhi has released the notifications for Admissions in UG and PG courses 2017. Those applicants who want to get admission in the coming session 2017-18 they all need to submit their online Application Form on the official website www.du.ac.in.

BMMMC Delhi University

Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW) will recommence the entrance examination for its course of Bachelors in Multi Media and Mass Communications (BMMMC) soon. The entrance will be a two tier system of examination.
The entrance examination had been an essential, mandatory and integral part of the process of admission to the course of BMMMC in IPCW till three years back, until the four year undergraduate program marked its entry to the University of Delhi. BMMMC is a self financed course offered exclusively by IPCW in Delhi University.
It is an integrated and sundry course that constitutes and covers eclectic branches of media studies. The college boasts of a block that is solely dedicated to BMMMC. The college is also well-equipped with a studio for the aspiring media professionals and an editing bay. With an adept array of professors and guest lecturers from the field of media and a class apart infrastructure, the BMMMC course of IPCW is one of the best in the country.

The change in the nomenclature of the course from BMMMC to BJMC (Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communications) during the time of FYUP was the sole reason behind the withdrawal of the two tier entrance examination. For the three years, admission to this course has been on the basis of the merit list released by the college. The entrance exam will be held in two parts. Part I is to be conducted on 21st June. The candidates who clear the Part I Entrance Exam need to appear for Entrance Exam II later. The final list of the candidates will be declared in June and will also be put up on the college website. There is hence a change in the eligibility criteria for the candidates appearing for the exam. A required percentage is essential to be eligible to appear for the entrance examination. Other important details including the structure of the question paper for the entrance exam are available on the college site. Last year, even after the departure of the FYUP system of education, the process of admission to BMMMC on the basis of the merit list prevailed. The shift from the three year undergraduate program to the four year undergraduate program in 2013 and the rolling back of the FYUP in 2014 kept the entrance at bay, so as to keep the entire process of admission smooth and hassle free. Finally, the entrance examination has been brought back which, according to many, will help the department to put a check on and retain its limited seats for the students.
The English Journalism courses in other colleges of the University of Delhi will continue to take students on the basis of the cutoff percentage that will be declared soon.
