Students of Jammu and Kashmir are urging the government to set up examination centres at Srinagar for various Universities like (JNU, DU, JMI and AMU) entrances.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said that it is not possible for the students to afford air tickets to travel to other states and appear for exams as most of the them are hailing from marginalised communities.

As the examinations will be conducted from the next month, many students fear contagion, are giving second thoughts to traveling. It is going to be a lot of a hassle for students to travel to Delhi and other places when most of the students are not vaccinated as yet, and there is also a possibility of the third wave happening in the country.

Despite the pandemic, no centre has been allotted to Kashmir by these universities which has left the local students high and dry.

JKSA Secretary Davood Ahmad said: “It will be very inconvenient for the Kashmiri students to travel all the way and spend money on in other states if their examination centres are not arranged locally. This is really hard and grave situation especially for the students belonging to the average income group who can not afford the travel and accommodation expenses.”

He requested LG Sinha to urgently look into the matter and kindly establish alternative exam centre for Kashmiri students in Srinagar for the entrance exam, “otherwise large number of the students may miss the examination if the centre is not set up in Valley.”

Moreover, the exams will be held for final year udergraduate and posgraduate students. Additionally, the backlog exams for these students will also take place. This decision was declared after meeting by examination committe. The meeting was held on 30th May.The notice was then made available to the AMU deans and head of departments (HOD’S). Considering the situation, the university is still deciding on the mode for the exams.

The notice further informed that alternative options may be considered to hold the exams, if situation doesn’t improve. These maybe online , or OBE. Earlier, DU came up with tentative datesheet for the OBE. It was declared by both teachers and students as anti-student move. AMU released the notice on its official website, thereby informing the students regarding the decision.

AMU earlier declared that exams will be held from July 1. However, the final decision would be announced 20 days before the dates of exams. The decision will be taken considering the situation at that very time.

It is no surprise that students are confused. While students are facing problems, the university decides to hold exams.

Various Universities and Colleges Are Not Taking Final Exams. While the Maharashtra Govt. cancels all final year exams, DU and AMU are on the verge of taking them. Furthermore, other prestigious institutes have also decided to not take the final year exams. IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee are not taking the exams. Henceforth, the decision of these universities will be importants.

While the final mode of exam of AMU is still not decided, DU released the tentative datesheets for final year students for Open Book Exams. The tentative datesheet shows DU conducting exams from July 1. The students now awaits the decision from their respective universities.

In the midst of the heated debate over the demand of constructing “Ram Mandir” in Ayodhya, we are now witnessing a fresh demand over the construction of Saraswati temple within the campus of Aligarh Muslim University.

A student of AMU has written a letter to the VC demanding the construction of Saraswati temple in the campus. Ajay Singh (grandson of Aligarh BJP MLA) said that “the construction of the temple would send a message that AMU stands for unity and secularism.”

He further stated that there was no better tribute to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s idea of Hindu-Muslim unity and the idea of a cosmopolitan India than this.

“There are at least 6,000 Hindu students in the university, but there is not a single temple, while there are mosques in almost every hostel. What kind of secularism is this?” he said.

“I want to ask this question to all the secular people, to the Congress as well, who preach these talks but have never talked about a temple in AMU. The university’s secularity will only be accepted when there are temples, mosques, gurdwaras, etc, side-by-side,” he added.

Former student union president Faizul Khan quoted a 2015 Supreme Court’s verdict, which barred the construction or demolition of any religious building in central universities or educational institutions. He further said that because of the court’s verdict the temple cannot be constructed inside the campus even if the demand is backed by the top notches or even the whole university.
