Late on Friday night, there was a fight at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. It happened between two groups of students – one called ABVP and the other connected to the Left. They were having a meeting to choose people for the student elections. Both groups said some of their members got hurt.

JNU Clash Between ABVP and Leftist Groups

This fight took place during a meeting at the Sabarmati Dhaba on the campus. The meeting was about picking members for the Election Commission for the 2024 JNUSU elections. The Left group, DSF, said ABVP students disrupted the meeting by causing trouble and not letting it happen peacefully.

Videos on social media showed students arguing loudly, and security had to come in to calm things down.

The DSF accused ABVP of working with the administration to stop the meeting from happening. They said it was an attempt to stop the fair process of elections.

The Students’ Federation of India said ABVP students attacked the JNUSU president, Aishe Ghosh.

ABVP said it was actually the Left group who started the fight. They said Left students tried to disturb the meeting because they didn’t want it to happen. ABVP said they tried to stop the disruptions, but it led to a fight.

The situation got worse as ABVP accused the Left group of starting trouble after they couldn’t stop the meeting.

A lot of students had come to Sabarmati Dhaba for the meeting. Earlier in the day, enough students had agreed to have the meeting, so it could start.

The Delhi University is likely to begin registrations for admission to entrance test-based and postgraduate courses in the third week of July, at least a week prior to starting the process for the remaining merit-based undergraduate courses, a senior official said on Monday. The Supreme Court had on June 24 directed all state boards to declare the internal assessment results of Class 12 by July 31 and gave them 10 days to formulate and notify their evaluation schemes.Entrance based exams from mid july

Rajeev Gupta, chairman, DU admissions, told PTI , “We might start the registration process (for admissions) by the third week of July. There are chances that we might start the registration process for the nine entrance-based courses and postgraduate courses by that time in the first phase and then the registration process for the merit-based courses. The gap between the two phases won’t be more than a week or 10 days.”

He, however, said there is a possibility that all state boards may not declare Class 12 results by July 31.

The admission process was entirely conducted online last year in view of the coronavirus pandemic and students did not have to visit colleges or departments at all.

Students used online platforms for the admission process, accessing the admission list, payment of fees etc. from the comfort of their homes, the university said, adding that the verification of documents was also done online.

CBSE Board Exams 2021 for Class 10, 12 in offline mode will likely to be conducted in August if situation is conducive, said Education Minister.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on June 25 shared a special message for CBSE Board Exam 2021 students. The education minister said that students who are dissatisfied with their Class 10, 12 results can appear for physical exams that would likely be conducted in August if the situation is favourable.

Education minister addresses students regarding queries of board and entrance examinations

CBSE Board Exam 2021 for Class 10, 12 has been cancelled by the Board due to the rise in COVID19 cases across the country. The Board has framed separate evaluation criteria for Class 10 and Class 12. The evaluation criteria was accepted by the Supreme Court on June 18, 2021, for Class 12. The result will be declared by CBSE by July 31, 2021.

The exam dates and other details of physical exams (if conducted) will be released by the Board in due course of time.

In a major upset, no announcement regarding JEE Main 2021 or NEET 2021 exam dates were made. The message was only to assure the students of the safety and to share the process of CBSE Result 2021 calculation. Lakhs of students are eagerly waiting for the clarity on the pending competitive exams. It may be worthy to point out here that the Education Minister did not conduct a live session. The message was a pre-recorded message for the stduents.
In the recorded message , the Education Minister has shared that the CBSE optional exams may be conducted in August or any other later date, in case situation is conducive. He has also insisted that the safety of the students is paramount to the government.

Students of Jammu and Kashmir are urging the government to set up examination centres at Srinagar for various Universities like (JNU, DU, JMI and AMU) entrances.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said that it is not possible for the students to afford air tickets to travel to other states and appear for exams as most of the them are hailing from marginalised communities.

As the examinations will be conducted from the next month, many students fear contagion, are giving second thoughts to traveling. It is going to be a lot of a hassle for students to travel to Delhi and other places when most of the students are not vaccinated as yet, and there is also a possibility of the third wave happening in the country.

Despite the pandemic, no centre has been allotted to Kashmir by these universities which has left the local students high and dry.

JKSA Secretary Davood Ahmad said: “It will be very inconvenient for the Kashmiri students to travel all the way and spend money on in other states if their examination centres are not arranged locally. This is really hard and grave situation especially for the students belonging to the average income group who can not afford the travel and accommodation expenses.”

He requested LG Sinha to urgently look into the matter and kindly establish alternative exam centre for Kashmiri students in Srinagar for the entrance exam, “otherwise large number of the students may miss the examination if the centre is not set up in Valley.”
