University of Delhi’s School of Open Learning, SOL extends the last date to July 20 for submission of examination forms for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The examination forms were extended for undergraduate students pursuing B.A. (Programme), B.Com, B.A.(H) Political Science, B.A. (H) English and B.Com (H) students for Semester-II examinations 2020-2021.

In addition, for postgraduate students pursuing M.A. (Hindi), M.A. (Sanskrit), M.A. (Pol. Science) & M. A. (History) examination form for Semester-II examinations 2020-21 has also been extended to July 20. The examination forms will be submitted through
Student Dashboards on the SOL website https://sol.du.ac.in.

The last date was extended from June 26. The students who registered themselves for Semester-I/Semester-III Examinations held in March 2021 are required to submit their respective Examination Forms for Semester-II Examinations 2020-2021. The notice also mentions if the student fails to submit the form, he/she will be presumed not willing to give the examination for the session 2020-21.

Additionally, the varsity also issued a notice regarding the change of its nomenclature from SOCCCE(School of Correspondence Course and Continuing Education) to SOL(School of Open Learning) on June 26, 2021.

The School of Open Learning (SOL) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It was established in 1962 and offers programmes in humanities, social sciences and commerce. Approx more than 1.5 lakh students are enrolled every year. It is one of the largest educational institutions in India, with around 10 lakh students.

Delhi University released a notification on Monday stating that students will be allowed to submit their answers for Open Book Examination (OBE) via Email in case on emergencies. The varsity clarified the procedure for attempting OBE for first and second year students of School of Open Learning (SOL) and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB).

Earlier the University had stated the procedures of downloading of question papers and uploading of answer sheets through University’s exam portal. If in case the portal fails, the new notification provided an alternative for the same.

Delhi University, in the notification, said: “If for any reason, the candidates are not able to upload the scanned images (PDF format) for their answer sheets on the portal after the completion of the examination, the same can be sent in PDF format at the designated email address of SOL and NCWEB as the case may be.”

The university said that question papers will be available for all students on DU’s official website. In case the question papers cannot be downloaded, SOL students can access it through “their respective dashboard” and NCWEB students can access it through “email or Whatsapp upon request”, said the varsity.

For SOL students, in cases of emergency, the question papers will be provided 5 minutes prior to commencement of exam.

Though the students, students’ and teachers’ bodies have been actively protesting against the conduct of OBE, the University seems to be adamant with its decision.

Delhi University today released a clarification on the notice issued on 04.06.2020, regarding promotion of students of 1st and 2nd year.

For the subjects in which the students have failed, the students will be promoted to next year. However, students may clear the examination for the course in which they have failed/remained absent next year.

All above Students shall he allowed to improve their grades in the succeeding year as per the cycle of semester for Students admitted in the semester mode of study.

For students admitted in the yearly mode of study the notification issued on 04.06.2020 for students Registered with SOL and NCWEB shall be applicable in the case of students belonging to yearly mode of assessment.

The School of Open Learning, University of Delhi has recently come up with FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) regarding OBE and Assignment Based Evaluation (Internal Assessment) of SOL students for the Annual/Semester Examination-2020.

These FAQs came amidst rising protests against Open Book Examinations (OBE) from teachers, students as well as teacher associations such as; Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) and student bodies such as; ABVP, NSUI, AISA etc. With that, the current Twitter trend #StudentsLivesMatter in addition.

The varsity through its FAQs concerning OBE made an effort to address the apprehensions of various stakeholders involved.

It begins with differentiating between Open Book Examination and Assignment Based Evaluation (Internal Assessment). And says, The Open Book Examination is meant for 3rd year/IV Semester students of UG and PG Courses of SOL whereas the Assignment Based Evaluation (Internal Assessment) is meant for I, II Semester and 2nd year students of UG Courses and II semester PG Courses of SOL students.

Further, it says, the 2nd year students are being promoted to 3rd year and 3rd year Ex. (Failed) SOL students have to appear in the Open Book Examination with all their Essential Repeat if in case.

With that, the 1st year Ex. (failed) and 2nd year Ex. (failed) students of SOL also have to appear in the Open Book Examination. For this purpose, the date of examination can be confirmed from the Date Sheet.

It further added that any Essential Repeat(ER)/ Improvement Papers of related to Part-1, Part-2 and Part-3 of 3rd year students (if any) will be given through Open Book Examination. For this purpose, the date of examination will be confirmed from the Date Sheet as well.

While clearing the apprehensions of I and II semester students it asserted that the I and II semester UG Courses students of SOL have to give Assignment Based Evaluation (ABE). And also mentioned that the ABE will be separate for I and II semester students of SOL.

Delhi University published a tentative date-sheet for OBE (open book examination) for all the students registered in their official website.
As per the date-sheet students registered under the CBCS pattern (2015-2017) will have exams from July 1st, 2020 whereas examinations for BSc Honors of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and other such subjects for the Final Year students will start from July 2nd, 2020.
Initially, the idea of OBE was opposed by the board members, students, and teachers. It was concluded that it would be unfair for students and most of them won’t appear in OBE due to a lack of e-resources and proper connection to the internet. The teacher also said that it is new for them as well as students and no one is prepared for it so it can lead to anxiety among a large number of students.
For the current time period, Delhi University released a tentative date-sheet for OBE and students are asked to check their official site for more details.
