Fashion follows a cyclical pattern, with trends frequently reappearing years or even decades after their inception. However, not every trend deserves to be revived. Some trends, while famous at the time, should be preserved as part of fashion history. Here, we look at five fashion trends that should be left behind and why they should never return.

Low-Rise Jeans

Low-Rise Jeans

Low-rise jeans, prominent in the late 1990s and early 2000s, are one of the most controversial fashion trends of recent decades. These jeans, with a waistline that sits considerably below the hips, were frequently worn with crop tops, which exposed the midriff more than intended. Low-rise jeans emphasize the hips and lower stomach, which can create an unappealing shape for many body types. They might highlight love handles and other areas that people desire to keep hidden. These jeans are notoriously uncomfortable, particularly when sitting. The frequent need to modify them to prevent wardrobe malfunctions is both annoying and impractical. This fashion trend contributed to unrealistic body standards, requiring people to maintain an incredibly slender figure in order to fit into these low-slung jeans. Bringing them back might worsen unhealthy body image issues.

Juicy Couture Tracksuits

Juicy Couture

Velour tracksuits, popularized by brands such as Juicy Couture in the early 2000s, have become a symbol of casual luxury. These tracksuits, often decorated with rhinestones and slogans across the back, were a must-have for celebrity wardrobes and everyday wear. The colorful, logo-heavy style may appear gaudy and overdone. Modern fashion favors modest, sophisticated loungewear that is both fashionable and comfy. Velour fabric, while cozy, can appear old and wear out rapidly, losing its attractiveness. Furthermore, the fit of these tracksuits frequently lacked structure, making them less flattering. Today’s fashion sensibilities favor minimalism and sustainability. The overt branding and disposable nature of these tracksuits do not reflect current values.

Platform flip-flops

Chunky Platform Flip Flops Wedges

Platform flip-flops, a late 1990s and early 2000s fashion trend, merged the informal look of flip-flops with the height of platform shoes. While they were popular on beaches and casual vacations, their functionality and style are debatable. Platform flip-flops provide little to no arch support, which can lead to foot issues like plantar fasciitis. The unstable sole may also raise the risk of ankle injury. These shoes are unsuitable for most occasions. Their hefty design clashes with many outfits and lacks the sophistication required for anything more than casual use. The large, heavy soles can appear unnatural and disproportional. Modern footwear trends favor streamlined, practical designs that combine style and support.

Popcorn Shirts

Magic Bubble or popcorn Shirts

Popcorn shirts, also known as magic bubble shirts, were a wacky fashion trend in the late 1990s and early 2000s. These shirts were distinguished by a distinctive material that expanded to fit the body when worn. The elastic fabric was inventive, but the fit was frequently erratic and unattractive. The shirts may highlight unwanted areas and produce an odd appearance. Popcorn shirts were considered more of a novelty than a fashion standard. Their distinct texture made them difficult to coordinate with other pieces, restricting their usefulness. The fabric used in these shirts was frequently synthetic and unpleasant, trapping heat and causing discomfort.

Mini Sunglasses

Tiny Sunglasses

Tiny sunglasses, which were fashionable in the 1990s and have lately made a brief reappearance, are another trend that should be left behind. While they were popular with celebrities and fashion influencers, their functionality and style are debatable. Sunglasses’ principal function is to shield the eyes from dangerous UV radiation. Tiny sunglasses cover only a small area of the eyes and provide little protection. Tiny sunglasses can seem edgy and avant-garde, but they are not suitable for all face shapes. They might make a face appear disproportional and fail to highlight natural characteristics. These sunglasses have a transient attraction. Their comeback was fleeting, and they rapidly fell out of favor, demonstrating that they needed more long-term appeal of classic styles.

While fashion provides a platform for self-expression and creativity, some trends should not come back. Low-rise jeans, Juicy Couture tracksuits, platform flip-flops, popcorn shirts, and tiny sunglasses are all instances of fashions that, while memorable, should go down in fashion history. These fashions, which are frequently impractical and ugly, do not fit with the contemporary emphasis on comfort, sustainability, and timeless style. As the fashion business evolves, it is critical to recognize innovation and development while leaving certain bygone patterns behind. This allows us to focus on building a wardrobe that reflects modern ideals and aesthetics, ensuring that fashion continues to be a source of delight and confidence for all.

College Campuses can be considered hotbeds for the variety of fashion trends on the rise. Among the vibrant tapestry, students can be seen with their unique styles and aesthetics. Under the wide range of these trends and aesthetics, various subcultures have emerged on campuses. From the rebellious character of goth to the laid[1]back feel of skater culture, the emotional depth of emo to the vivid world of K-pop, these subcultures leave a lasting influence on college fashion trends. Let’s explore the impact of these subcultures on college fashion trends and understand how they foster communities and shape the way students approach different trends.

Fashion trends that group together people for their shared interests result in the formation of subcultures. Subcultures have unique characteristics that help them to be recognized as a subset of fashion. They play a crucial role in shaping college fashion trends, fostering a sense of community for the people who may feel misunderstood by mainstream culture. College campuses promote diversity, and students use their clothing to express themselves and their personalities. Subcultures allow students to be themselves while also connecting with people who share their interests and values.

  • Goth Culture

Goth Culture Fashion

It was in the early 1980s when goth started gaining popularity. Goth culture can be said to have its roots in punk and alternative music scenes. Dark-colored fabrics like velvet, lace, and mesh are frequently used in this subculture. Gothic makeup consists of thick black eyeliner, dark red or black nail paint, and high-contrast hair. Jewelry with motifs like skulls, roses, and skeletons is used to accessorize. This all-black attire, bold and dramatic makeup, and edgy accessories are all characteristics through which goth culture is defined.

  • Emo Culture

Emo culture draws inspiration from punk and indie rock music, particularly influenced by the emo music genre prominent in the early 2000s, which emphasized emotional vulnerability. The reappearance of emo fashion and music in the 2010s can be attributed to artists such as Billie Eilish. Emo fashion consists of layered clothing, visibly expressive accessories, and hair dyed in vibrant colors or styled in a fringe. The makeup is focused more on the eyes, accentuating them with a smoky look or thick eyeliner, and pairing them with nude lips. Emo clothing such as band merch and accessories helps students to find and form a connection with other students who share their interests.

  • K-pop Culture

BlackPink K-pop Fashion

K-pop culture, which originated from South Korea’s music industry, has won the hearts of fans all over the world with its catchy tunes, energetic choreography, and bold fashion statements. It rose to prominence in the early 2010s and can be considered to be one of the most popular fashion subcultures today. K-pop fashion is characterized by its range of styles, vibrant hues, and experimental silhouettes, reflecting the culture’s emphasis on visual aesthetics and performance. This subculture’s clothing consists of trench coats, pleated skirts, and dresses mostly preferred in pastel or neutral patterns. K-pop bands like BTS and BlackPink only further popularized this culture.

  • Bohemian Culture

bohemian fashion

Bohemian culture, also known as boho chic, originates from an aesthetic dating back to the late 60s and 70s. Inspired by the hippie culture, bohemian fashion celebrates creativity, freedom of expression, and an informal style. Bohemian fashion is characterized by its casual, bohemian style, which includes flowy fabrics, natural hues, and complex patterns inspired by nature and different cultures. Boho clothing mainly consists of maxi dresses, blouses, and long skirts. Students accessorize by layering handmade or vintage jewelry. Maximalism is prevalent in boho-chic style, so clashing prints, styles, colors, and vivid tones, layered with chunky jewelry are most common.

  • Dark Academia

Dark Academia Fashion

Dark academia is an aesthetic influenced by academia’s representation in literature and art. This aesthetic is considered to be heavily influenced by the Harry Potter film franchise. History, Greek arts, and gloomy aspects all played a role in the creation of this subculture. It exudes a mysterious vibe that romanticizes the pursuit of knowledge. Dark Academia outfits often include tailored and vintage-inspired clothing such as tweed blazers, turtleneck sweaters, and leather satchels. These outfits layered with scholarly accessories such as Oxford shoes, wool coats, and antique accessories, appeal to the students who are drawn by the allure of the sense of mystery this fashion trend provides.

In addition to shaping fashion trends, subcultures on college campuses also act as a medium to form social connections and improve personal growth. Through their shared interests, students form communities that extend beyond the confines of campus life. These communities provide support and a sense of belonging for students who may feel misunderstood, fostering inclusivity and solidarity among a diverse group of individuals.

Subcultures promote creativity, experimentation, and self-expression, allowing students to explore and appreciate their individuality. Students participate in them for self-discovery and personal development whether it’s through fashion, music, art, or activism. By promoting diversity, authenticity, and originality, subcultures help to develop an inclusive and accepting culture, encouraging empathy and understanding among peers.

Conclusion

In conclusion, subcultures enrich college campuses by bringing diverse perspectives, styles, and identities, influencing fashion trends, and fostering communities of like-minded people. They empower students to express themselves confidently through their fashion. As college campuses evolve into hotspots of inclusion and diversity, subcultures are bound to play a significant role in determining the future of college fashion, enabling students to embrace their own identities and celebrate the beauty of their differences.

  1. Off- Shoulders
Last year it was really difficult to find an off shoulder dress/top. But since they are coming back this year, the market is going to be full of off-shoulder tops and dresses. They have a bohemian vibe in them. This summer I suggest you to go for off-shoulders instead of crop tops.
    1
  2. Trench Coats
Definitely the best clothing item for winters. Keeps you warm and looks extremely classy. Forever 21 has one of the best trench coat stock. Instead of going for chunky sweaters, go for trench coats or over sized coats.

    3
  4. Ripped Jeans
When girls came across ripped jeans, they started to hate their normal boring jeans. This year too, they are going to rule. In fact, these jeans cost more than normal jeans. So, I suggest you to DIY your old jeans. It’s pretty simple!
    4
  5. Trimmed Beards
I know many boys love big beards, but 2016 is not about that. Keeping it neat and classy is the key.Celebrities like Adam Levine and Liam Hemsworth often rock this look and it is sure to be a hit coming seasons.

Strappy heels are surely sexier than normal pumps / heels. Some day if you feel your outfit is not popping,
    Answer?
    Strappy heels.

If you were doing the denim on denim trend in 2015, then my friend you were doing it right.
    7

They are replacing straight-legged or skinny cuts this winter because they create a whole new silhouette.
    8
  9. Must Have Accessories
Hoop earrings (you can wear them with literally anything!), reflector aviators /sunglasses and totes are coming back in 2016 with a bang!
